His passion is helping entrepreneurs create the "next big things" in mobile and social media, Greentech innovation, education and economic development. The venture capital projects he has sponsored have created more than 200,000 new jobs. He serves on the boards of Amyris, Google and Zynga, as well as several private technology ventures. He also led KPCB's investment in Twitter. His career in technology began at Intel in 1974, right around the time the chip maker invented the revolutionary 8080 microprocessor. During his years at Intel, he held positions as an engineer, marketer, manager and salesman. He also learned about operational excellence from Intel co-founder Andy Grove, which he still shares with entrepreneurs today. These include NewSchools.org, TechNet.org, Climate Reality Project and ONE.org. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Rice University and a master's in business administration from Harvard Business School. He also holds several patents for computer memory devices. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a member of President Barack Obama's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.
