John Ryu is a co-founder and investment partner of Hypothesis Studio. Prior to Hypothesis, he was a venture capital advisor at KohFounders. He also serves as CFO at Simplify Asset Management. Before joining KohFounders, he helped launch Assuredly and Greensbury Market as an EIR at Scout Ventures. He also helped launch Scout Ventures and supported a portfolio of more than 60 companies. Previously, Mr. Ryu was Product Manager at WebMD, where he launched their first social and mobile app monetization products. He also managed all of the targeted advertising products within the Medscape product umbrella, which generated over $50 million in annual revenue. Prior to WebMD, Mr. Ryu managed products and was interim CTO at AdECN (backed by Accel and acquired by Microsoft). In addition, Mr. Ryu was head of search products at WhenU (a BCG subsidiary backed by ABS Capital and Trident Capital). In two years, Mr. Ryu grew his P&L from $0 to $50M. The company grew to $100M and then was acquired by a private equity firm. Mr. Rue also has experience as a strategy consultant at Cap Gemini and experience with investment banking firm Hambrecht & Quist. He holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University and a master's degree in business administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
