Klaus Hommels is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lakestar. He was the founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lakestar SPAC. He founded Lakestar in 2012 after managing his own venture capital fund, Hommels Holding. He is a board member of Revolut, Modern Meadow and Harry's. Previously, he worked at Balderton Capital. He was a board member at Factory Works. He was vice president at Benchmark in San Francisco. He started his career at Bertelsmann before joining AOL Germany as a board member in 1995. He is one of Europe's best-known business angels and venture capitalists. He is also a spokesman for the European technology ecosystem to strengthen Europe's position in a time of digital transformation. He has invested in many major players in the technology sector. He was one of the first investors in companies such as Skype, Xing, King, Facebook, Spotify and Airbnb. He frequently interacts with policymakers, regulators and corporations to bring European technology and capital flows to the attention of the global agenda. He is a supporter of think tank initiatives such as the Ashoka Foundation for the Internet Economy and the European Center for Competitive Research (ESCP) in Berlin. He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. He was also a member of the board of directors of Oscar.
